All too often when people are thinking about improving their eating habits, they get fixated on all the things that they think they can’t have. The problem is, the more you think about not having something, the more you’ll want it!
Working on your mindset a little and focusing instead on all the things that you CAN include can go a long way to reducing your cravings for other, less nourishing, foods. Besides, if you’re focusing on fitting in all the serves of essential food groups you need each day, you’ll probably find that you won’t have much room left for treat foods. That’s not to say that you can’t have any treats at all, we are all human and we all need some treats, but when you’re having them less often you will likely find that you actually enjoy them a lot more and appreciate them for the occasional foods that they are.
So next time you’re making some healthy changes, don’t focus so much on restricting, but more on getting in all of the nutrients that your body needs. For example, instead of trying to cut out chocolate, focus on getting in your 2 serves of fruit each day – that way when the 3pm chocolate craving hits you can reach for the fruit bowl and satisfy your sweet craving while also giving your body essential nutrients. Then, if you still feel like chocolate every now and then, don’t beat yourself up about it, just enjoy it for the treat that it is.
What positive healthy habits have you been focusing on lately?
